2003 Dose of Kindness Awards

Thearne Minick

Thearne MinickThearne’s mom says that Thearne’s happiest times are when he can use a computer—whether it is to do schoolwork or surf the Internet. However, Thearne must go to the public library to use a computer, and sometimes it’s difficult to get there. Thearne’s mom asked that he be awarded a computer because she’s noticed that Thearne is very focused when he’s doing computer work, and he’s learned a lot on his own about using a computer.

Stacy Steward

Stacy StewardStacy was referred to our Hospital’s Assistive Technology Team to determine what might help her to more efficiently complete her schoolwork and homework. The Team recommended a computer with an Intelli-keys program, but after two years, Stacy and her mom are stilling waiting for DCPS to provide the computer and software. Well, Stacy won’t have to wait any longer, because her Dose of Kindness award is a computer that will be outfitted with the software she needs.

Tre Haley

Tre HaleyTre’s mom tells us that Tre is a sports fanatic, especially over basketball and football. She thinks that the opportunity to see professional sports will encourage Tre to be more independent and pursue the things that he loves. So, as his Dose of Kindness award, Tre will receive tickets to professional sports events throughout the year.

Asiah Thomas Hawkins

Asiah Thomas Hawkins with her motherWhen Asiah comes to the Hospital for therapy, she loves to ride an adaptive bike – one that she can ride all by herself. Her mom knew that if Asiah had a customized bike, she would be able to ride and keep up with her friends, and not have to just watch as they had fun. So for her Dose of Kindness award, Asiah received an adaptive bicycle, and from what we hear, she is having a great time with it!
